Hugo Possolo de Soveral Neto

Vitória, Espírito Santo, Brazil, 1962

Actor, clown and theater director. He earned a degree in Journalism at Casper Libero and another in History at USP, Sao Paulo. His father was a book editor. Hugo was a student at Circo Escola Picadeiro and debuted in the theater in 1984 in the play "Quando Tenho Razão Não É Culpa Minha," directed by Arthur Leopoldo e Silva. A few years later, he started writing and performing his own shows such as "Sardanapalo" (awarded by the Jornada  SESC de Teatro in 1993); "Zeroi" (1994); "U Fabuliô" (which represented Brazil at the Expo in 1998  in Lison, Portugal); "Não Escrevi Isto" (Best Scenographer Shell award, 1998); "Farsa Quixotesca" with the group Pia Fraus (Best Show and APCA award, 1999); "Pantagruel." In 1998, he was awarded the great award, APCA, for the show, "Vamos Comer Piolin." Hugo was also the curator of the I International Circus Festival in Minais Gerias. From May 2004 to May 2005, he was the National Circus Coordinator at Funarte, Ministry of Culture. Hugo is one of the founders of the group Parlapatões together with Raul Barreto. Alê Roit was also part of the original group. A few of his recent shows include "O Bricabraque" (director and playwriter); "Bruxo Pontocom" (text by Márcio Viana); "Prego na testa" (directed by Aimar Labaki and Shell Award nominee for best actor). In 2006, he inaugurates Circo Roda Brasil, which brought together the groups Parlapatões and Pia Fraus as well as the Espaço Parlapatões at Praça Roosevelt (Roosevelt Square ), São Paulo. In 2014, Hugo was awarded for his works in circus and theater arts by the Bunge Foundation.
