Amercy de Paula Silva

Sao Fidelis, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1940

Acrobat, hand-balancer, equilibrist. She is the daughter of Marrocos (Américo de Paula) and Juracy Fabbri de Paula. Her father performed in 240 circuses in Brazil and she debuted with him in the Duo Marrocos. At age 15, she started performing corde lisse and rola bola. Soon after, she formed the Trio Marrocos with her sisters Tania and Sadia. Amercy met Jaime Rodrigues, known as the clown Mulambo, when he was working for Circo do Cheiroso, owned by Otávio and Mafalda. They got married and again worked with her father, before becoming the owners of Circo Iranjá. A little while later, they sold their business due to a new contract with the Canelas (Nonô Paracampos) family. From 1978 to 1981 she taught at Academia Piolin in São Paulo with other prestigious and traditional circus artists. Since 2009, Amercy has been working as a consultant at Centro de Memória do Circo.
