Zoltan Guranyi

Leiden, Netherlands, 1936

Tamer. Zoltan decided to become a tamer when he was working at Krone Circus in Germany and saw the film "Tromba." He became impressed with the way the tamer in the film hypnotized tigers. At age fifteen, he started helping out an animal tamer at Circo Boltini, in Italy. There he met Bib Althof who became his first teacher. Zoltan came to Brazil in 1953 and started working with ponies and camels in the circus of Netti Palacios. In 1957, he specialized in the art of taming with Julius Jacob in the United States. Then, he started training wild animals for movies until 1960. In 1987, he and Fred Gaffner prepared a performance with bears in the circus of Carl Althof in Germany. Zoltan worked for almost all of the Brazilian circuses until 1992: Danilo Stevanowich (1954 and 1960); Dumbar Circus (1955); Alaor Prata (1961); Pedro Stevanowich (1962); Florian Robattini and Orlando Orfei where he organinzed the lion show (1969-1974); Hagenback (1974-1977); Rui Bartholo (1977-1978); Bismarck (1978-1980); Garcia (1981-1985) and Walter Bartholo (1986). Zoltan married Valma Pedrosa and their daughter Irma Kessy Guranyi is a tamer.
