Gilberto Fernandes

Acrobat, actor, comedian, producer, writer and clown. He is the son of Lauro Fernandes and Linda Fernandes and one of the fifth generation descendents of the Fernandes family. His grandmother is Sara Fernandes. Gibe was born and brought up in Circo-Teatro Irmãos Fernandes, owned by Chilean artists who came to Brazil. He started at five doing pyramid acts and later in juggling. When he was nineteen he made his debut as a clown with the famous Dino Santana and Chimarrão (Alberto Fekete) in the defunct TV Excelsior. In his long artistic career he worked for the circuses Irmãos Prata, Bocuti, Garcia, Vostok, Simplício, Liendo and Norte-Americano (owned by Achiles Pinto) until 1964. He also taught at Academia Piolin. Gibe married the circus artist Laudi Fernandes.
