Maria Irma Lopez Daniel

Salta, Argentina, 1911 - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 2012

Acrobat, actress, wire walker. She is part of the second generation of artists in her family. Together with her sister Alba she formed the duo Mary and Alba and started working in Buenos Ayres. In 1931 a circus businessman invited them to work in Rio de Janeiro, where they performed in various theaters. In the early 1940s, Mary and Alba broke the duo, however returning together on stages in the 1950s. At that time, Mary owned the theater Follies, in Copacabana, and changed her name to Mary Monterrey. She acted in films and on television and also wrote plays and vaudeville shows, some of them performed by the stars Elvira Pagã and Luz del Fuego. Later in her life she became well known as Mary Daniel. Her name can be found in A Acrobata e o papel: uma vida de artista from Maria Cristina de Souza. Mary married the artist Juan Daniel. Their son is the actor and tv director Daniel Filho.
