Camilo de Souza Torres

São Paulo, 1956

Actor and clown Pirulitos. He studied Advertising at Anhembi Morumbi University. When he was a child he liked going to the Circo Joia to see the clown Penacho acting. The circus belonged to another clown named Antonio Francisco da Costa, known as Rebian. Years later, he became a clown and went on to act in the Circo Teatro Carlito Martins and with the theater group Elvira Gentil, as well as coordinated activities in the Secretaria de Cultura when it was managed by Marcos Mendonça. Camilo acted in the plays...and formed a duo with the clown Vai-Vai (1991) and  set up the Nativity of Jesus at Largo Treze in the neighborhood of Santo Amaro, São Paulo. In 2002, he reopened the Abracirco (Brazilian Circus Association) and organized the circus group "Folias de Picadeiro." For eight years, he was the director of theater activities in the Casa de Cultura de Santo Amaro, as well as artistic director of the Museum there. In 2006 he setup the first circus tent after being awarded the Proac. Since 2012,  Camilo has been an advocate for artistic rights, he has participated in the financial council of Abracirco (Brazilian Circus Association) and is a member of the São Paulo Association of Cultural Business affairs which is associated with the UBCI - União Brasileira de Circo Itinerante (Brazilian Union of Travelling Circus). Besides all of this, he is also linked to the Centro de Memória do Circo (Circus Memory Center) and the Cooperativa Brasileira de Circo (Brazilian Circus Cooperative).
