Son of Francisco Antônio da Silva and Maria Lopes da Silva, he is part of the third generation of a family well-known for cycling acts in northeast Brazil. In 1940 he learns the art of photography and forms a partnership with the photographer Euclides in Recife.  Both move to the State of Sergipe, where Cadilac made his living taking and selling pictures of small circuses in the countryside. He married Joseffa and had two children: José Alfredo and Jucineide, and together they formed the Silva Troupe.
